Conjure, Hoo Doo, Root-work or Spirit work is a unique American magical tradition that spans the country, races and classes. We all have stories about the little things our grannies and aunties did to create a better life, bring a bit of luck or make sure we stayed safe and healthy. This group brings together practitioners of American Folk Magic to share our knowledge before it is lost to the ages.
Each month we will pick a new topic and share our expertise and experience; candles, oils, saints, spirits, protection work are a few subjects to get us started. Bring your notes and be prepared to take a few of your own.
As we get this meet-up rolling, we can bring in experts for private workshops and conference calls.
We are asking for a donation of $3 or whatever you can afford to pay for the cost of the meeting space.

Silk Road Luminary
by
Northern Lights
LUMINARIES
Silk Road Luminaries are inspired by vintage textiles from the area once known as Russian Turkestan, which was reknowned for its beautiful printed cottons in bright colors and intricate patterns. We have reproduced these patterns on a printed canvas wrap with a durable coating, then affixed the wrap to a glass cylinder to create these wonderful luminaries. The patterns are striking in normal light, but by adding the element of candlelight to these amazing designs they really come to life. Each luminary includes a metal hanger that will fit a tealight or glass votive candle.
Extraordinarily well priced, Silk Road Luminaries make it easy to add detail to any corner; and they make a perfect small house gift as well.
Silk Road Luminaries measure 3.5 " diameter x 9" ht. and include a metal candle hanger. This bold Red & Black Floral was produced in the late 1800's in Russia, and is absolutely stunning. The palette is limited to black and ivory on a rich red ground.

Vampires have Virtues?
Robert M Place and Coventry Creations unlock the Virtues of the Dark Side
It is true, there are Seven Vampire Virtues and if anyone knows about them it is Robert M. Place, artist and author of The Vampire Tarot, published by St Martin’s Press in 2009. Place based his tarot on the legends and iconographic figures of Brahm Stoker’s Dracula . With the Vampire Virtue Candles, Place has taken the lessons of the Dracula characters and translated them into virtues we can use in our 21st century world. This new line of candles boasts 7 Virtuous vampires and is 2” wide by 7.5” high with a 50+ hour burn time.
Robert Place’s Vampires inspired Coventry to carefully chose the blend of oils and color to enhance the magic of each Virtue. The quality, vibrancy and integrity of Coventry Candles were the perfect match to Robert M Place’s clear and vibrant award winning artistic style. The result is a line of candles that appeals to all the senses and bring healing to all the levels of the self; including the darker, shadow side. The dark side of the self is often rejected as negative or "not of God", but in actuality, the dark side of the self is where we learn to overcome adversity and find strength. Stoker and Place show this through Mina’s journey into the dark side lead by Dracula; by embracing the dark she was able to help defeat it.
“We have been fielding requests for a line of Vampire candles for years, but until we spoke with Robert M Place, the healing and empowering properties of the Vampire legacy had not been clear”, said Jacki Smith, President of Coventry Creations. Patty Shaw, VP and Coventry Candle Goddess, states “If we bravely go into the shadow self and look beyond the behavior we will find the story of why and what. The why is about the event or trauma that happened to create the shadow and the “what” is the personal power that is let go of to cope with the trauma.” Jacki and Patty also talk about how the creation of the Vampire Virtue candles has been a deep learning experience for them too. Be prepared for your vision to be widened as your courage to face your own dark side is expanded. Robert M Place states on the label that, “…the literary vampire represents the face of the unconscious that Jung calls the Anima or Animus. This archetype first appears filled with shadow material. As the shadow is integrated, however, it evolves spiritually and carries us with it and we come into our full potential."
Robert M Place is a prolific, award winning artist and tarot scholar who has designed and authored several tarot decks and books including the Alchemical Tarot, the Buddha Tarot, The Tarot: History, Symbolism, and Divination and Astrology and Divination, Magic and Alchemy. Jacki’s September Remember
Remember when your spiritual journey was new? When every step was an amazing discovery? Remember when you felt tangible energy for the first time. You could sit in the yard and connect to the fair folk for the first time. When you met your spirit guides and had your first telepathic communication. When you turned over and understood your first Tarot or divination deck. You may not have experienced all of that, but you experienced enough of it to remember how amazing the awakening of your spiritual innocence was.
Now, after a few (or many) years, experience and life has rubbed off all the new and your view on the spiritual world may be a bit tarnished. You have seen the meaner side of the spiritual world, have had to face your own truths and have had your faith tested a few times. The spiritual side of life is a bit old hat, if not a bit of old black hat. Time to spice things up and reconnect with the joy and wonder of what brought you to this path in the first place!
This month you assignment is to get excited and awed by the spiritual world again. Here is how to start.
Take one Inspiration Blessed Herbal Candle and a quiet space. Take 20-30 minutes of your time and repeat this Mantra. “I am awake to the magic around me”. Do this once a week for 4 weeks and your world may just shift on its axis.
Take one Brigit World Magic candle and sit outside. Call upon Brigit to show you the magic of the Fairy folk around you. Sit with your vision softened, and your body relaxed and still. Know that not everything you see can be explained away.
Take one Spirit Guide / Ancestral Candle and light it every night for 2 hours before you go to bed (extinguish it before you sleep) and call to your spirit guides to bring you messages. Even wear a bit of the Spirit Guide oil to bed to dream of your guides and ancestors.
Happy Magic!!
